Aquarium set up and installation

Freshwater aquariums start off as simple water tanks that are gradually filled with aquatic life to create the ideal aquatic environment. A little extra care and patience at the start will go a long way toward ensuring a healthy and trouble-free aquarium for many years.

Set up the Tank:

Rinse the tank thoroughly to remove any dust or particles.
Place the tank stand in its proper location, making sure it's level and adjusting as needed. Place the tank on the stand and fill it with one to two inches of water if you don't have access to a carpenter's level. On all four corners, make sure the water is an even distance from the top of the stand. An aquarium that is out of balance can be extremely dangerous. Furthermore, putting a tank on an uneven or inclined surface increases the likelihood of the tank cracking or leaking. Using a tank stand that isn't made by the manufacturer could violate your tank's warranty.
Make sure there is enough space between the back of the tank and the walls to accommodate filters and allow easy maintenance.
Attach your background to the tank.
Fill the tank to around 1/3 capacity. Dry the bottom border of the tank and the stand with care. Now look for any leaks. Look for water beading up on the bottom border of the stand or running down the sides. If the tank leaks, empty it and take it back to the store to get a new one. You can try to fix it, but repairing a leaky tank is complicated and there is no assurance that it will work.

The Filter

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions before installing the filter. At this moment, do not connect your filter.

Install the Airstone

Now is the time to connect the action ornament, airline tubing, gang valve, check valve, and air pump if you need bubbles.

Fill the Tank

Fill the tank with water the remaining of the way if there are no leaks. Place a small saucer or bowl in the tank and pour the water directly over it to preserve the decor. Check for leaks inside the tank.
